Helping residents access recreation programs

More residents across the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg (MODL) are participating in recreation, sport, arts, cultural, and wellness activities thanks to the Municipality's recreation assistance programs.
A year-end report presented to MODL's Policy and Strategy Committee highlighted the impact of the PRO Kids and PRO Fund programs during the 2025-26 fiscal year. Together, the programs provided more than $118,000 in financial assistance and supported nearly 500 activity registrations for children, youth, and adults throughout the municipality.
"Recreation, sport, arts, and cultural activities contribute to healthier individuals and stronger communities," said Mayor Elspeth McLean-Wile. "These programs help remove financial barriers and ensure more residents have the opportunity to participate, regardless of their circumstances."
Climate survey shows drought and property damage top concerns for residents

More residents are feeling the effects of climate change, according to results from the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg's 2026 Annual Emergency and Climate Change Impact Survey.
The survey received 250 responses, nearly triple the number received in 2025, providing one of the clearest pictures yet of how climate-related events are affecting residents across the municipality.
Drought emerges as top concern
Drought was the most commonly reported climate-related impact, followed closely by property damage.
Among residents who reported drought impacts, nearly half experienced significantly reduced well water levels, while more than one in five reported their well had run completely dry.
