Working with the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, and other key decision-makers, the Active Living Coordinator promotes physical activity and leads the creation of an Active Living Strategy that is specific to the challenges and opportunities in our Municipality.
This strategy intends to engage key stakeholders, community partners and residents of the District of Lunenburg in developing and implementing a plan to increase opportunities and enhance support for Physical Activity. The Strategy will also be a call to action to address health risks and the burden of illness associated with physical inactivity. The overall purpose of the strategy is to identify ways to get more people in the District of Lunenburg to be more physically active more often.

Every Community Should be a Walking Community
Walking is Canada’s most beneficial physical activity for all ages. Walking can reduce stress, strengthen the heart and lungs, increase energy levels, and help you maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. To support you, we are offering several items to assist with walking/cycling on your rural road in the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, to keep you safe and comfortable.

Active Transportation
Active transportation includes walking and biking, but also rollerblading, kayaking, skateboarding, scootering, and any other form of human-powered transportation. In the winter, active transportation takes the form of cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Active transportation enhances the quality of life, attracts business and knowledge workers to a community and contributes to economic development.
The Municipality of Lunenburg has realized the necessity and benefits of active transportation and has adopted an Active Transportation Policy.
